[altlinux-announce-en] Distribution Release: ALT Workstation 10.2

Good day!

Glad to present to you the update of the operating system ALT 
Workstation K 10.2 on Platform 10 (p10 Aronia branch). The assembly of 
ALT Workstation K 10.2 distribution kit is prepared for the x86_64 
architecture. The operating system is included in the Unified Register 
of Russian programs and databases.

New features 10.2

* Default login manager LightDM. To replace SDDM with LightDM in an 
already installed ALT Workstation K 10.2 run:

# apt-get install kde5-display-manager-lightdm
# reboot

* Now it is possible to join the system installer via VNC: 
https://www.altlinux.org/Installation_by_vnc (in Russian).

* The option to start a Plasma user session via systemd is enabled by 
default. To check the status run:

$ systemctl --user status plasma-workspace.target

* Noto family fonts are used.

* Screen scaling is adjusted using the xorg96dpi boot option during 
installation.

* Libnss-role role module added. The mechanism for adding groups to 
groups allows you to manage groups of users through categories of roles 
and privileges.

* Installation is on the BTRFS.

* After operating system installation a restore point is automatically 
created.

* Permissions on home directories no longer include the execute 
attribute for everyone.

* Special features: speech synthesizer, screen reading, speech output 
processing service. ORCA screen reading is installed by default and this 
application needs to be enabled.

* PackageKit or Discover (graphics) applications are recommended for 
updates. A reboot is required after package updates.

* Additional software applications Flatpak and SNAP can be selected 
during the system installation step.

* Wayland support has been brought to a usable state.

New Application Versions

* The distribution kit is built on the kernel un-def-6.1.
* KDE: Plasma 5.27, Frameworks 5.108, Applications 22.12, Mesa 23.1.
* Samba 4.16 and gpupdate 0.9.12 group policy application tool.

The major release of ALT Workstation K 10.0 was in May 2022.

The new version of the distribution kit is based on the stable branch of
the Platform 10 repository and does not involve incompatible changes
when moving to 10.2. For new corporate users it is possible to obtain
test versions and traditionally private users are offered to download
the required version of the ALT OS for free from the BaseALT Ltd.
