и hibernate, и powersave умеют перед сном устанавливать дефолтное ядро
для следующей загрузки, поэтому меню бутлоадера я вижу не каждый день.
однако /etc/powersave/common:

а вот man hibernate.conf:

наск. я понял, да.

смысл в том что после холодного включения видеокарта может быть
сильно не в том состоянии, в котором ее ожидают видеть иксы.

вот из мана:
        UseDummyXServer <boolean>

                 server after resuming to restore the state of the
