Мне кажется, не совсем.

Как я понял, MTP- расширение PTP.
И libgphoto2 содержит некоторые из них, и собирается без libmtp, каковая,
соответственно, самостоятельная реализация.
Но другие тулзы могут быть собраны с ней.
Во всяком случае, интерес посмотреть есть.
