You will need to rebuild your kernel to include ACPI support. Say
'y' to the CONFIG_ACPI option. If you want to build in the (as
yet) experimental support for sleep mode, say 'y' to the
CONFIG_ACPI_S1_SLEEP option as well.  You do not need to disable
APM support; if ACPI support is found at run-time, APM support
will be turned off automatically in the running kernel.  If you
want to try the new 2.4.0-test3 or later driver interface, say
'y' to CONFIG_ACPI_INTERPRETER, which builds the AML interpreter
right into the kernel and makes some changes in the
/proc/sys/acpi interface as well.
