Вот это очень интересно - т.е. дважды сделан start и оба раза
сервер стартовал? А откуда "дровишки", в смысле init-скрипты?
Я у себя этого воспроизвести не могу.

У тебя пакет самосборный или пересобранный из Сизифа?

А что в логах (/var/log/maillog)?

Так. Настрой и запусти POP3-демона из пакета courier-imap. С ним проще
проверяться. После запуска сервера:

$ telnet localhost 110
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
+OK Hello there.
user test
+OK Password required.
pass test
+OK logged in.
quit
+OK Bye-bye.

Т.е. используем имя test и пароль test дла входа в почтовый ящик. Диалог должен
соответствовать приведенному выше.
