Subject: [Audacity-devel] MIDI
I just got off the phone with Roger Dannenberg and David Murray.
They're both very interested in giving Audacity MIDI features,
but rather than muck with Audacity, they're planning to rewrite
the Allegro library to support all of the data structures and
algorithms we'll need to deal with MIDI. With any luck it will
be ready by the end of the summer and we can consider integrating
it into Audacity. Roger has also been very active in pushing
PortMIDI forward, and it now has support for Windows, Mac OS X,
and Linux/ALSA.
I don't want MIDI to get in the way of the 1.2.0 release. But
I think it's fair game afterwards. Ideally, I'd like serious
MIDI development to start after the track refactoring, which is
the first main thing on my agenda after the 1.2.0 branch.
In the meantime, if anyone is interested in MIDI, let me know
and I'll show you the proposed new Allegro API and put you in
touch with Roger and David.
- Dominic
