Hello Michael,

thank you for the patch you've provided. Unfortunately, I
must reject it. 
One reason is that the patch will ignore errors such as
insufficient permission or I/O error.
The other, iff mkdir (mis)behaves like this, it is a
mkdir(1) bug (failing compliance with SUSv3 = IEEE
1003.1-2001, 2004 edition) that should be filed against the
coreutils package. SUSv3 clearly dictates that "mkdir -p"
must ignore pre-existing directory names without error.
coreutils 5.92 exhibits a regression here.

However, to cater for these stupid tools, I will change the
Makefile so it does not trip into this coreutils bug. It's a
minor change. 1.11.4 will contain the fix.
