Subject: [DRBD-user] hung up with XFS

Hello,

My system hung up when do bonnie++ to XFS on drbd.

"hung up" is that there is no response, no message (on syslog and
console), no network response (ping) from server. so I must do
hardware reset.

Everytime hung up in "Delete files in random order" on bonnie++
process.

I also try ReiserFS on drbd, JFS on drbd, XFS on disk (/dev/sda1)
these are no problem. Only hung up XFS on drbd.

Any idea?

[environment]
distribution: Debian 3.1 Sarge
      kernel: 2.6.11.10, 2.6.12.[12] (vanilla)
        drbd: 0.7.10, 0.7.11, latest 0.7 (get from svn)
    bonnie++: 1.03a (debian package)
    mkfs.xfs: 2.6.20 (debian package)

[reproduce]
$ bonnie++ -d /mnt/drbd/tmp/ -s 32 -r 0 -n 20:4096:2048 -x 1

check, if you've enabled 8KB stacksize in kernel - we had similar
problems using the 4kb stack. with 8kb anything is running fine. l

make sure you configure and use large (at least 8k)
stacks in your kernel. xfs will blow up otherwise.

other than that, without relevant kernel messages,
no way to help you.

I tried bonnie to XFS with kernel that "Use 4Kb for kernel stacks
instead of 8Kb" off (8KB stacksize). Everything goes OK! no hung up!!

Thanks a lot Lars Ellenberg, Arne Groh and DRBD-users!!!

Cheers,
