Вы зря торопитесь. Это начало, а не завершение ... ;)

Какой у вас дистриб, какое у вас ядро?
У меня:

Всё прекрасно работает.

Правьте именно /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Сначала настройте свой xorg.conf, а потом уже всё остальное.

Насколько знаю ТВ-выход настраивается при наличии нагрузки.

Зачем же так, это же не окошки от M$. Во вложении мой /etc/X11/xorg.conf. 
Только учтите, что у меня монитор 19'' TFT, по сему и разрешение стоит 
1280x1024 60Гц. Для вашего монитора будет иное.

P.S.: для начала отладьте свой /etc/X11/xorg.conf, что бы просто X-сы 
работали, а потом уже и настраивайте ТВ-выход.
