С этим я разобрался. Сам дурак.
Теперь винндовая машина пишет Registering your computer on the
network... Error 743: the PPP link control protocol was terminated

вот лог:
CTRL: Ignored a SET LINK INFO packet with real ACCMs!
MPPE required but peer negotiation failed

Что может быть? По идее что-то не так с pppd.
