Вот, что получилось.

Это было под Suse Linux 9.0 Live CD
Под Knoppix RE 3.3 Live CD, вроде всё пошло как надо, но из консоли root 
там ничего не скопируешь.
Результата все равно нет, к великому сожалению.
Что ещё можно сделать.
