У меня всё работает.

$ rpm -q gkrellm gkrellm-hddtemp
gkrellm-2.1.24-alt1
gkrellm-hddtemp-0.2-alt0.32

В /etc/rc.d/rc.local прописано:

/usr/sbin/hddtemp -d /dev/hda

$ telnet 127.0.0.1 7634
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to 127.0.0.1.
Escape character is '^]'.
|/dev/hda|Maxtor 4R080L0|44|C|Connection closed by foreign host.
