Да почитал этоу ссылочку. Возможно, что именно Вам не повезло и Вы столкнулись
с одной из указанных проблем. Однако Вы неправильно поняли, что "что так и
должно быть".
В подавляющем большинстве случаев ATI mach64 карты работают прекрасно.
Конечно конкретно Вам от этого не легче :( но есть надежда.

Я приложил свои XF86Config (для XFree 3.3.x) и XF86Config-4 (для XFree 4.0.x).
НЕ ИСПОЛЬЗУЙТЕ ИХ БЕЗ МОДИФИКАЦИИ! Там прописаны 100Гц моды.
Возможно, что Ваш монитор их не поддерживает и может сделать ку-ку навсегда.
Что делать? Можно поиграть с настройками. Но из нижеприложенного лога
следует, что у Вас XFree 3.3.x. Может быть просто стоит попробовать XFree 4.0.3
(b это моя опечатка ;-)? Он входит в состав Spring 2001. Кроме того на
ftp.altlinux.ru есть директория Dedalus с самой последней пре 4.1 версией XFree
(4.0.9-что-то-там...).
