Hello everybody,

We're happy to announce the beginning of public beta-testing of ALT
Linux 5.0 Ark - a suite of distributions designed for making integrated
solutions.

The suite includes 3 distributions for two hardware platforms (i586 and
x86-64):
        * ALT Linux 5.0 Office Server
        * ALT Linux 5.0 Desktop
        * ALT Linux 5.0 GNOME Desktop

ALT Linux 5.0 Office Server features:
        * Enterprise network setup
        * Host-based authorization of users and services
        * Easy connection of remote offices with VPN
        * Host-based updates for servers and workstations
        * Easy server-based operating system installation to
        workstations
        * Out-of-the-box virtualization for 3rd party software
        * Integrated backup and restore system (you can restore a single
        file from a backup as well as the whole partition)
        * Unified file storage with quota support
        * Automatic RAID1 creation if installer detects 2+ identical
        discs
        * An easy and convenient administration interface that doesn't
        require profound knowledge of the server subsystems

ALT Linux 5.0 Desktop and ALT Linux 5.0 GNOME Desktop features:
        * A choice of a graphical environment for users (KDE 4.3 or
        GNOME 2.26)
        * Automatic detection of a connected Office Server installation
        along with configuration of network-wide settings from it
        * Easy interaction with containers that are installed at the
        Office Server, including out-of-the-box terminal client mode
        * A set of software that lets you start working right away: an
        office suite, internet applications and more
        * Host-based authentication
        * Integration with Office Server network file storage

Using ALT Linux Office Server and ALT Linux (GNOME) Desktop in
complement, you can instantly raise efficiency of users' and
administrators' everyday work: there's one place to add and set up user
accounts, network resources are automatically mounted, services are
announced and automatically discovered via Zeroconf. Another useful
feature is virtualization with pre-defined profiles (KVM and OpenVZ
technologies are at your choice). Newcomers can easily administer the
server and the network by means of the AJAX-powered web interface
(sporting ALTerator technology).

P.S. Unofficial ALT Linux Lite (with XFCE desktop environment) and
Rescue CD images are available at the same location. Feel free to try
them out!

P.P.S. Please don't forget that all the provided images are betas. Deep
functionality and stress testing reports are always welcome, however no
